This patient suffered from aggressive gum disease that began in her teenage years and it affected her entire mouth to the point that all of her teeth were diseased. The patient, who is middle-aged, had lost a lot of her bone due to the disease and was traumatized at the thought of having dentures. Dr. Swamidass began the most important step in any dental treatment, which is developing an accurate diagnosis and treatment plan. After, explaining to the patient she could have dental implants with fixed teeth she agreed to treatment.

Dr. Swamidass dedicated time in order to accurately plan this patient’s treatment. With the aid of 3-D printed models and surgical guides, he would be able to plan her entire implant surgery and treatment before. By planning with the end result in mind, we can safely predict what our outcome will be.

After her healing, Dr. Swamidass began the process of making her final prostheses and the patient was very involved in deciding what she wanted her teeth look like. Try-in teeth were made to show the patient what her final teeth would look like.

The patient received an upper Zirconia prosthesis and a lower acrylic/titanium prosthesis. It was decided to have 2 different material because Dr. Swamidass wanted the lower teeth to be a shock absorber in order to prevent complications with Zirconia’s natural ability in being a brittle material. The patient was very happy with her new permanent teeth!
